Exams 104

Mid-Term Exam

Instructions: Answer one question from section A (analytical) and B (creative). Each question is worth 25 marks.

Time: 1 1/2 hours.

A. Analytical

1. Drama Insights: What do you consider to be the principles of Drama? Provide examples from the class to support your statements.

2. Describe your most interesting Drama project, exercise or class. How did this experience directly impact on your understanding of Drama? Contrast this experience with another Drama experience which you found difficult or confusing.

B. Creative

1. Create a story which evolves from our Story of the People which culminated in a creation story.

2. Select any activity such as the hand drama, the box experience or making the paper plate mask and develop a story.

Final Exam 2004

Instructions: Please answer four questions.
Questions are of equal value.

Time: 3 hours.

1. Formulate a model from which you could develop a coherent and comprehensive drama program.

2. Drama requires teachers to be able to think on their feet. The best way of acquiring this ability is through constant practice based on a clear understanding of the principles of drama and its potential as an educational medium. Plan a lesson. Define your aims. Organize an approach. Outline possible strategies for responding to developments. Finally place this lesson in a context.

3. Playing in role enables one to learn by experimenting, to take on different attitudes, and to see how others respond. Throughout this term how much “self” did you find in the roles you played? How is role-playing different than acting? Do you prefer to be involved in role-playing or to watch others role play? How would you bring role-paying into your educational setting?

4. Explore the connection between theatre crafts and drama. Explain how theatre crafts - masks, puppets, costumes, properties, light and sound, video, staging and set - can enhance the drama but not be the drama. Continue the exploration into the tension between theatre and drama. Focus on your responses to the many theater performances you have seen this year. You may also wish to critically asses the value of bringing live theatre to children and then outline ways of preparation and possible follow-up for such live performances.
